CAVOC NEWS and VIEWS

July/August 2003

Local Community Planning in Bellshill
CAVOC recently held an information exchange session at the ARCH centre in Bellshill on Community Planning, and in particular the Local Community Planning Pilot project which is taking place. The purpose of the session was to exchange views on;

The voluntary sector's role in local community planning How to engage in the process

The group highlighted a number of issues, including:
  1. The need for information on all services and resources available locally
    (including statutory and voluntary sector)
  2. Use of other agencies to provide in-kind support for the voluntary sector
    (such as transport for clients)
  3. Community Planning should involve and inform local people
    The need for consultation before the new services are developed
The Bellshill Community Planning Pilot is focusing on 2 specific issues regarding Community Safety and Young People:
Education: Health Eating Initiatives, Family exercise classes/quizzes, healthy food demos, Health checks, graffiti Arts/Community Art Under pass project.
Services to 16 and 17 year olds the initial focus for joint action would be on issues of employability and the transition from mainstream education to further education and the world of work.

If any group runs, or plans to run services or projects around any of these issues, please contact CAVOC.
CAVOC will continue to hold information exchange sessions and feedback as Community Planning develops. For more information contact Alison at CAVOC
